This is a short intense course which teaches managers how to delegate work in a way that is motivating to the worker, and which provides the manager the assurance of getting completed staff work in a way and at standard they find desirable.

PURPOSE OF THE WORKSHOP: This intense, half-day workshop teaches managers how to relieve their own time pressures and, at the same time, develop and utilize the skills of their team members by delegating appropriate tasks to them. It teaches what tasks to delegate, what circumstances to delegate under, as well as some tools and techniques for carrying off this responsibility successfully.
CONTENT: The course covers these major issues:
- An analysis of the barriers to delegation and the reasons why many managers are resistant to this process.
- The five major stages of delegation: preparation, communication, monitoring, evaluation, and feedback.
- A 13-point model for deciding what to delegate and to whom.
- A 7-point step-by-step model for delegating any task, clearly and directly.
- A discussion of six monitoring systems for seeing to it that delegated tasks are brought to successful completion.
- A brief review of basic communications skills relevant to this process.
- An examination of common pitfalls and mistakes people make in delegation, as well as some antidotes for correcting or avoiding them.
